Over 70 Boston United players take part in Futsal Day

7th January 2020

Over 70 Boston United junior players took part in a foundation phase Futsal Day on Saturday 21 December.

Teams ranging from Under 7 to Under 11 within the club’s Foundation Phase participated in a series of in house games at Peter Paine Sports Centre.

The day was held as an introductory event to Futsal to allow our younger players a taste of playing an organised futsal match. The day was coordinated by the Club’s qualified Futsal Coaches and was very well supported by the club’s coaching staff, players and parents.

Nick Reeson, Lead Foundation Phase Coach, said: “The players had a fantastic time at the event. It was great to have so many kids enjoying a morning of Futsal – it was the first time that most of the players had played Futsal – and they certainly took to it very well.”

The indoor version of football, which is played with a harder, smaller ball designed to bounce less than a normal one, supports skill development such as close control and places an emphasis on creativity which Boston United view as integral part of our football development strategy.

Nick added, “We see this as long term project where want to expose our younger players to play more futsal. Futsal provides a great opportunity to play a game at an intensity that also compliments the work we are doing within in our partnership with Coerver.

“This reflects how we wish to develop the Boston United player for the future. Our Under 10 Girls team have recently won the County FA Futsal Cup and now go on to the regional finals as well as both our Under 12 and Under 14 girls teams have achieved the same feat. This early success has given us a great platform to continue to build upon and develop our players using futsal, not only as a development tool but in a sport in its own right too.”

Be healthy and join Man v Fat

The FA-endorsed Man v Fat Football scheme that has helped more than 15,000 men lose more than 230,000lbs is launching in Boston on Friday 24th January.

The initiative, which combines playing football in a league with diet and lifestyle advice, will kick off in Boston at Peter Paine Sports Centre, Rosebery Avenue and takes place every Friday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

This is a great opportunity for local men who want to tackle their weight can join this weight-loss league, funded by the One You Lincolnshire programme and in partnership with Boston United F.C.

95 per cent of players who have joined the programme have lost weight during the 14-week league – so now is your chance to join in and shift some weight, especially after the festive period.

At the MAN v FAT sessions every Friday, there will be traditional weigh-ins before each game, followed by a 30 minute game of six-a-side football. Extra goal bonuses are up for grabs and this is all dependent on the pounds lost by the players, so it becomes a real team effort to lose weight together.

The Man v Fat head of football Richard Crick said: “We’ve seen that Man v Fat football can have an incredible impact on the health of our players with 95 per cent of players losing weight and 93 per cent reporting improvements from a range of conditions such as curing sleep apnoea to reversing diabetes. Our players have now lost more than 230,000lbs and we want to keep increasing that with leagues like the ones in Boston and surrounding areas.”
