Boston United Community Football Club’s Under 9s have been awarded the Sportsmanship Award from Lincolnshire Co-Op Mid Lincs County Youth League for the 2014/2015 season.

The team won the award for the Under 9 age group over two divisions and had the second highest score overall out of all the age groups from the under 7s to 17s.

Every team is marked out of 100 at every game by the opposition as part of the League’s FA Respect Campaign initiative. The score combines assessment of players’ conduct on and off the pitch, refereeing standards, supporters’ behaviour and match facilities. The team averaged a 95.1 score out of 100 through the season.

“It was a huge surprise when we found out we had won. This is such an achievement for the boys – they are great mates but they are also very competitive so to win the Sportsmanship Award is an excellent reward for how well the lads and our supporters have conducted themselves this season. It is a very proud moment for me as their manager. The boys have done exceptionally well,” says Marcus Cain, under 9s manager.

“As a parent, we are so proud of the boys but we’d also like to thank Marcus, and Anthony Brooks the assistant manager. Anthony refereed all the games this season, which isn’t an easy task! But Anthony is always fair and encourages both teams. The managers really contribute to the team and have done a fantastic job with training the boys this season. They’ve created a real family team spirit amongst the team with both the boys taking part and their parents.” Melanie Prince, parent.

Boston United Community Football Club caters for both boys and girls, with teams for under 8s to under 15s. If you’d like to take part, please call Martyn Bunce on 07508 242632 or email
