Boston United Youth Team – Provision for ‘Third Year’ Players

Boston United is a National League North football club, based in Lincolnshire.

The club runs a ‘Talent Pathway’ that extends from Under 13 through to the Under 23s and the First Team.

As part of an ambitious scouting and recruitment plan, the club is actively seeking high-level ‘third year’ (Year 14) players for the 2024-25 season that will compete in the National League North Academy Division, with a view to working towards contracts with our Under 23s / First Team.

Along with training Monday to Friday (and potentially Saturdays with our First Team, or a loan to a first team elsewhere), these players can also continue their education with any of the options below:

Level 3:

  • NCFE Diploma in Gym Instructing & Personal Training (equivalent to 1 A-Level)

You can find more information via the link below:

We offer a variety of Degrees options including:

  • Sport & Exercise Science
  • Sport & Exercise Science (Coaching Science)
  • Business

Players can continue their degree studies into a second and third based at Boston United, or transfer after one year to other university establishments.

Of the Talent Pathway, Boston United’s Head of Football said: “Between the ages of 18 and 21, an obscene number of very good players leave the game as they hit a glass ceiling. Despite outliers like your Rooneys and Bellinghams, very few teenagers play in National League North regularly, let alone in the Premier League. When this happens, an 18-year-old can then become disheartened and walk away from the ‘dream’. Not because they not good enough, they’re just not patient enough – and clubs are not patient with them. What we want to do at Boston United is to create a pathway that keeps these good players in the system longer, whilst also offering a meaningful education to degree level if appropriate.”
