BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport

Our full-time BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) is an academic course which deals with the principles and practices within the sporting industry.

It is primarily a theoretical course that analyses every aspect of sport through different subject areas in practical areas. It is delivered through a variety of practical methods, taking place within the classroom, the multi-use games area as well as various different external sources.
This pathway is equivalent to three A levels.

Learners are expected to have a good general understanding of a variety of fitness issues as well as a definite career pathway within the sporting industry.  Mature learners are encouraged to apply and entry onto the course will depend upon a successful interview and fitness assessment.

The course provides progression opportunities into relevant employment or higher education.

Who is this course for? – Our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) course is aimed at those wanting to further enhance their knowledge and experience in sport, covering all areas of the industry.

Entry Requirements – You will be required to have at least four GCSE’s at Grade A*-C (with English and Maths).  A reference testifying to the applicant’s suitability, demonstrating good behaviour and attendance is also required as well as a fitness assessment.  Access to a computer is desirable.

How will I learn? – You will learn via theory and practical sessions in and around Boston United Sports College.  You will be expected to carry out independent research in your own time throughout the course.  Depending on qualifications already achieved, you will undertake a Functional Skill  or GCSE (Mathematics or English) at the appropriate level to suit you as an individual.  There will also be an opportunity to develop e-learning through accessing the Sports Brain.

How will I be assessed? – Assessment is an ongoing process throughout the academic year you are with us.  It will take the form of assignments, practical sessions, oral presentations, stimulations and laboratory testing.

Football and Sports CoachingAt Boston United Sports College, students will have the opportunity to receive professional football coaching, or coaching in a variety of sports.

Male students who have a keen interest in football and improving their football career will have the opportunity to train and play with our Development Squads and Under-21s (depending on their age), with the overall aim to one day play with Boston United’s first team.

Female students who enjoy playing football will also have the opportunity to train and play with our dedicated Ladies Team as part of our Girls Regional Talent Club.

Are there any trips? – Yes!  There is something for everyone to enjoy! Trips in the past have included to army barracks, university trips, theme park trips, International Football Stadium Tours, PGL trips, paintballing and more!

What can I progress to? – Upon your success and completion as a learner on the Level 3 Extended Diploma, you can progress to our Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sport (Coaching & Sports Development) course at Boston United Sports University in partnership with Colchester University.

Possible careers on completion – Higher Education, PE teacher, Sports Coaching, Nutrition, Leisure Management, Sport Massage / Injuries, Sport Psychology, Sport Development or Practical Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, professional footballer and more!
