BUFC Academy player accepts Bradford City football scholarship
12th June 2020
Congratulations to Boston United’s Under 16 academy football player Josh Burkitt who has accepted a two year football and education scholarship with English Football League – League Two side Bradford City, alongside a season long loan deal with Newark Football Club.
Technical Director and Head of Youth Lee Mitchell said, “Josh has been an integral part of Boston United’s football academy for the past few seasons. And as with all academy players, the dream is to play professional football – some go onto clubs at higher divisions and the majority we try to keep at the club and involve at the next level with our Under 19s football team, which forms part of the pathway to the first team.”
The club’s main focus is to produce well rounded individuals that have strong characteristics and leadership skills, and who are good communicators. We know if we give them the right tools alongside their football knowledge and skills, that they will be successful in anything they do, on and off the pitch.
“Josh is one of those players – we never had any doubts that he would be successful. He has shown that with his focus, determination and committment on his latest challenge of a half marathon everyday for a month.
“I had the pleasure of working with Josh in the states when he joined the squad for the Arizona tournament and was excited about the season ahead and getting to work more with him. He has a great maturity about him and fantastic leadership qualities for someone so young.
“Although we are sad to see Josh leave the club, he knows from conversations I have had with him that the door will always be open for him at Boston United.
We wish him all the best and every success on his journey, and we have no doubts that he will be successful and give it everything at Bradford.
