Once in a lifetime trip to Real Madrid
4 May 2022
This weekend saw four young Boston United players travel to the Spanish Capital to take part in a once in a lifetime experience and train at the World’s Biggest Football Club, Real Madrid CF. The Pro Tour trip was offered to players at Boston United, via the club’s Coerver Coaching partnership.
U9s Player Alfie Galey along with U11 players, Finley Cartwright, Harry Reeson and George Fountain enjoyed two days coaching by the club’s academy coaches at Real City, the training base to all Real Madrid teams.
The first day saw the players being put through their paces with two training sessions at the Real City Complex. Next door to the training pitches at the Alfred Di Stefano Stadium, Real Madrid legend Raul was managing his Real Madrid Castilla team to a 5-0 victory against Cornella.
Later that afternoon, the players made their way to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for what promised to be a title clinching 4-0 win against Espanyol. This turned out to be a 35th La Liga title win, and something that made the whole experience even more special.
Following the witnessing of such an iconic game, the players then went outside the stadium to join in the celebrations with the 100,000s of Real fans in the city centre.
To top off an unforgettable weekend, the players and parents took part in a behind the scenes tour of local rival’s Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The players managed to sit in the dugout at the world famous stadium in addition to visit the extraordinary museum at the ground which is home to the 2020/21 La Liga Champions.
Following the return to the hotel, and a chance to freshen up, the players and parents then took the opportunity to travel into Madrid City Centre to absorb some of the attractions of one of the most iconic cities in the world.
On the final day it was back to the Real City complex for two more training sessions before heading back to the UK.
Community Manager Nick Reeson summarised the trip, “It’s been fabulous for these young players in our club to experience the environment at the world’s leading football clubs. Our players have had the opportunity to work with Real Madrid coaching staff who delivered sessions from the club’s academy coaching syllabus”.
“These sessions have been delivered at Real City, which is home to all Real Madrid teams and is one of the top facilities in any sport in the world. You can see the positive impact it has had on our young players, both on and off the pitch”.
“In addition to the training sessions, being able to go to a Real Madrid first team game in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and seeing them clinch the league title is something that will never be forgotten”.
Nick added, “Having the opportunity to visit a city like Madrid, the food, the culture, the history. It’s all part of their learning as they develop as young players but also as young people.”
“This opportunity to come here as a young player, as a parent, as we’ve had on this trip, to experience Real Madrid, it’s been an opportunity that our players will never forget for the rest of their lives”.
