Sport and Exercise Sciences Diploma Level 3

The Level 3 Sport and Exercise Sciences Diploma is a two year course with Boston College. During your first year you will study the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Sciences National Extended Certificate. This can be a standalone one year qualification. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Sciences Diploma equivalent to two A levels .

This course is designed for those who wish to gain a sport qualification to further their career aspirations in the sports and leisure industries, or prepare them for further training or Higher Education.

A range of units will be studied over the course that cover all aspects of sport and exercise including: anatomy, physiology, psychology, training, coaching, analysis, and nutrition. In the second year, a Level 2 gym instructor qualification will be available for those working at their set target grades.

You will study in our Peter Paine Performance Centre, which is open to the public outside of lessons providing you with a real working environment to study in that’s dedicated to ensuring you have all the skills you need for working in the industry.

What will I do?

During the Sport and Exercise Science Diploma, you will study the following units:

Year 1

  • Functional Anatomy
  • Applied Sport and exercise Psychology
  • Applied Coaching for Performance and Fitness
  • Physical Activity for Individual and Group Based Exercise

Year 2

  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Field and Laboratory based Fitness Testing
  • Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Specialised Fitness Training

We have a variety of different teaching facilities including classrooms, human physiology and science laboratories, sports field and sports hall. The College also have links with a variety of local sporting organisations.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

Entry Qualifications

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Sport and Exercise Sciences Diploma are four GCSEs at grade 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) (or equivalent).

You can also enter the course with a Pass profile at First Diploma in a related subject.
