Sports Coaching Diploma – BTEC Level 3
The Level 3 Extended Certificate / Diploma in Sports Coaching gives learners, whose passion is football, the opportunity to study a 2 A level qualification along with receiving high class football coaching with Boston United Football club. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the many technical, tactical and business aspects of football whilst developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours required to be successful in employment or to achieve in higher education.
During your first year you will study the Level 3 Extended Certificate. This can be a standalone one-year qualification, which is equivalent to 1 A Level. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching, which is equivalent to two A levels.
This course contains an exciting range of units that focus on the practical delivery of sport. It includes a mixture of practical sessions and theory lessons and designed for students/players aged 16-19.
Taking the BTEC Sports Coaching course can be suitable for progression to University but also provides the vocational skills and experience to enter employment. This course specifically looks at developing sports skills in areas such as: Coaching, sports development and careers in the sports industry. You will be actively involved in sport and given the chance to experience a wide range of sporting activities. We value the importance of a realistic balance between football alongside your educational development and industry experience.
What will I do?
This qualification will allow you to study sports and leisure in a professional vocational sports setting linked to Boston United Football Club at the NEW community stadium. Football students will receive a minimum of 8 hours of coaching from Boston United as part of their enrichment programme. There will also be an opportunity to gain an FA Level 1 Coaching Qualification.
Throughout the full qualification you will cover a variety of mandatory and optional units, these include:
- Development Coaching
- Health, Wellbeing and Sport
Year Two units include:
- Applied Sports Coaching
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Sports Coaching
The entry qualifications for Sports Coaching Diploma are four GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
Preferably to include both English and Maths, although there are study options available should you not hold a 4 or above in English or Maths.
Where could this lead?
Your studies will equip you for a possible business career and provide you with the potential to apply to a range of Universities or Boston College’s own degree pathway.
Successful completion of the Foundation Diploma in Year One will allow you to progress on to the second year and complete the Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching & Development.
From there, potential progression routes include becoming a professional footballer, apprenticeship, US scholarship, direct employment or University.
It is anticipated that students who complete this course will go on to pursue careers in: professional sport, coaching, fitness, performance analysis, sports development or nutrition.
