S M Kent walking football

Boston United FC are delighted to announce S. M. Kent Ltd have sponsored one of their walking football teams for the next two seasons!

Steve Kent, who runs a roofing and general building specialist company in Boston, is a Boston United walking football player himself and was keen to help the teams with the sponsorship deal so they could have brand new black and amber shirts.

Walking football coach (and player!) Dave Scotney said “I’ve known Steve for many years through the Building Trade in which we both work and once he knew we were actively looking to upgrade our team kits he snapped up the chance to be the first in and have his name on the Black and Amber kit. What makes this two year sponsorship deal really fitting is that Steve is a fanatical Boston United fan and supports the First Team home and away and has also been an active member as a player at our Walking Football Sessions since the turn of the year. On behalf of the players and myself we would like to thank Steve for his contribution and are looking forward to representing the Club in our new look shirts!”

Steve Kent said: “I’ve known Dave for more than thirty years through football and work, and was aware of the good work he was doing with Boston United and the walking football. I started walking football in January (even though I’m not quote old enough just yet!), and really enjoyed it. It is an excellent for older people to get involved with – good fun, good exercise and a good social experience. I cannot speak highly enough of it. When I heard that Dave was looking for sponsorship it was a easy decision to put my name forward for one of the kits. I know how grateful Dave and the team are, and I am very proud to be sponsoring such a worthy cause, and one that is very close to me.”

Ceri Jackson, marketing officer at the football club added, “Walking football is becoming an increasingly popular sport, with many of our players saying how much of a difference these sessions have meant to them – from helping them be healthier and feeling much fitter as they get older, to creating a lovely social group of friends. It also gives long-term Pilgrims fans the chance to represent their club and play a game they love. We are incredibly grateful to Steve Kent for sponsoring one of the teams – we have lots of events coming up so the sponsorship has meant we can purchase brand new shirts for the team, ones they can wear with pride!”

Many of Boston United’s players have had knee and hip replacements, and others have had other injuries and ailments that they are recovering from – but the common thing that is heard is that the walking football sessions with Boston United has given them a new lease of life!

Anyone is welcome to come along and try out walking football – training is on Mondays (7pm-8pm) and Thursdays (5.50pm-6.50pm) at Peter Paine Astroturf, £3.50 per session. Anyone over 45 years can participate and new members are very welcome! For more information please contact coach Dave Scotney on 07501 638676 or email
