Lewis Cook provides this evening’s Academy Update!
Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to the JCS for this latest National League Encounter! In tonight’s edition of the Academy Angle, we are going to look at Player Progression, and how our Academy supports players to reach their best potential.
Academy Player Progression
Within the BUFC Academy!
At Boston United Academy, player progression is a key part of our philosophy. We are committed to creating positive, challenging environments where every player has the opportunity to succeed, develop and reach their full potential. Across the academy, a number of players have been given the opportunity to play up an age group this season, recognising their development and challenging them to continue improving against older opposition. Take a look at just some of the players who have made this step up and represented an older age group within the academy this season!
To Another Academy
We don’t just look for players to progress within our Academy, when the opportunity comes, its great to see our players progress up the leagues to other clubs’ professional academies. The most recent player to progress onto another academy is U14s player Isaac.
Congratulations to Boston United U14s Academy player Isaac, who has been offered a place at Lincoln City Academy following a successful trial period! Isaac joined the Boston United Academy earlier this year and has impressed throughout his time with the club, demonstrating great potential, an excellent work ethic and strong technical ability. As a member of our U14s Junior Premier League squad, Isaac continued to develop his game and was rewarded with the opportunity to trial at Lincoln City. Following a successful trial period, he has now earned his place at the academy — a fantastic achievement and an exciting next step in his footballing journey.
From the Academies Emerging Talent Pathway!
At Boston United Academy, player progression is not limited to those already within our academy setup. We are also passionate about supporting players within our Emerging Talent Pathway (ETP), creating opportunities for them to develop and take the next step in their football journey. This season, we have already seen players make that transition, particularly within our U12 ETP group. Five players have had the opportunity to train with our U13 Academy side, while three have also represented the team in matches. These opportunities highlight the pathway available to players at Boston United and the importance of providing challenges that support their individual development.
To gain a better understanding of the impact the pathway can have, we caught up with U14 ETP player Jaiden to hear about his experiences so far.
How have you found being part of Boston United’s Emerging Talent Pathway so far? - “I’ve really enjoyed my time with ETP so far. It is helping me with my football development and confidence. I also think that now the group has grown, the session topics will be even more beneficial to me as a player.”
Are there any similarities between the ETP and the Academy? “There are similarities between the topics covered in the weekly sessions. I find that attending the ETP sessions often helps me prepare for the Academy sessions.”
How has being involved in both environments helped you develop as a player and as a person? “Being involved with Boston United has really helped me grow as a player, especially by improving my confidence as a footballer. It is also helping me technically. In my most recent match for my Sunday team, I was named Man of the Match and received lots of praise from other parents, which I really enjoyed. “I’ve made lots of new friends at both sessions, and it has helped me realise that sometimes it’s good to step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself.”
What are your football goals for the season, and how will Boston United support you in achieving them? - “My main aim is to continue improving as a player throughout the season, and I know Boston United will help me do that because of the quality of coaching and the dedication shown to everyone involved. “I also want to become a regular player for the Academy team and help both teams I play for have a great season. Being involved with Boston United has already given me some great experiences, such as playing at St George’s Park, and I hope to have many more experiences like this with the club.”
Jaiden’s experiences reflect the value of the Emerging Talent Pathway in helping players develop their ability, grow in confidence and prepare for new challenges. By providing quality coaching and opportunities to experience different environments, Boston United aims to support every player in reaching their potential and progressing as far as possible in their football journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read our Academy Angle. Let’s hope for three points this evening under the lights!
