Youth Perspective Vs Aldershot Town (8.8.26)

United first team coach and U23s manager JAMIE RAYNOR reflects on a busy summer.

Good afternoon and welcome to the Jakemans Community Stadium for today's National League fixture against Aldershot Town.

It’s been a positive pre-season so far and definitely exciting times ahead of the new season for all involved. Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new intake of U23 players for the 2026-2027 season. It’s been a big turnover within the U23 group and we’ve added some internal players to the group that have progressed with in the football club’s pathway, as well recruiting from EFL clubs.

 Each player has earned the opportunity to be part of our development pathway, and we're looking forward to seeing them grow both on and off the pitch throughout the coming year. As a programme, we're continuing to evolve and develop. This season sees us increase our contact time with the players, operating over more days each week to provide a more professional environment that better reflects the demands of senior football. The additional time together allows us to place greater emphasis on technical development, tactical understanding, physical preparation and individual support, ensuring every player has the best opportunity to reach their potential.

We're also excited to introduce GPS technology through Catapult Sports, which mirrors the first team, across the programme. This allows us to accurately monitor players’ physical workloads during training sessions, while also tracking the demands placed on those gaining valuable experience out on loan. The data enables us to manage each player’s development more effectively, ensuring they are training and competing at the right intensity while reducing the risk of overload as they progress through the season.

The continued growth of the programme reflects the club’s commitment to developing young players and creating a clear pathway towards senior football. We’re proud of the environment we’ve built and remain focused on giving every player the tools, support and opportunities needed to succeed.
